Parkside Development, Coventry

Client: Winvic Construction | Location: Coventry | Value: £36 million

The project involved the construction of purpose built student accommodation in Coventry’s city centre. The scheme includes 502 high quality cluster bedrooms within three towers that are 6, 13 and 19 storeys high. The project involved the construction of a five metre deep contiguous piled wall basement, steel frame super structure and in situ poured, metal deck slabs.

Rubix Consulting assisted Winvic by providing Temporary Works support services from project commencement to completion and enjoyed working closely with the project site team.

An early item of temporary works included the design of a piling platform, the north side of which was close to the top of a three metre high masonry retaining wall which ran parallel to a busy ring road. Rubix Consulting checked the load effects from the piling rig onto the retaining wall and advised the site team on minimum offsets for safe rig working.

Other design items included site office foundations, hoist and Mastclimber foundations and temporary propping to metal deck slabs. Rubix Consulting also checked several designs produced by other organisations, these included tower crane foundations, wall formwork, scaffolds, and checking the permanent steel frame for supporting mobile elevated working platforms.

Throughout the interesting build, Rubix were on hand to attend site meetings to discuss challenges and develop engineering solutions with Winvic and their subcontractors. In keeping with the spirit of collaborative working, the project also provided one of Rubix Consulting’s engineers the opportunity to spend time being resident on site for two weeks. This allowed them to develop their knowledge of construction processes and in turn, provide onsite Temporary Works advice and guidance to the site team.
