The project involved the construction of a new Design Centre to support the delivery of GCSE Design and Technology and GCSE Computing from September 2022.

The work involved complex demolition and structural refurbishment to enable the removal of existing load bearing masonry structure and the installation of new structural steelwork and foundations. Rubix prepared a series of temporary propping and needling designs to safely support the existing structure and allow the foundations to be constructed and steelwork erected.

The works also featured extensive underpinning to an external, boundary retaining wall for which Rubix devised a suitable construction methodology.

Rubix visited site routinely to review the temporary works requirements and assist the site team in making sure that temporary structures were installed safely and in accordance with the design.
