Avanti House, London
Client: Farrans Construction | Location: London
Avanti House is a secondary school with a roll call of 1265 students. The scheme involved significant internal structural refurbishment and small elements of new-build. The brief for Rubix Consulting was to produce a variety of Temporary Works designs to support existing pre-cast concrete floor slabs, load bearing walls, tank room floors and timber roof trusses to enable the removal of load bearing, blockwork walls for new steelwork installation.
All of the construction work took place within school holiday periods and had to be well co-ordinated to ensure that it was completed prior to term start dates. In addition, the opportunity for intrusive survey work was minimal, meaning that a full understanding of the existing structural form could only be understood during the short construction window. The Temporary Works solutions therefore had to be produced concurrently with new findings on site and be adaptive to a fast-paced and demanding programme.
