Linthwaite House Hotel, Cumbria

Client: Galliford Try | Location: Cumbria | Value: £10.5 million

Built in 1901, the original property was a 5 bedroom house set within 7 acres of land overlooking Lake Windermere. The building has been extended over the years and additional surrounding land has been acquired, bringing the modern day total to 14 acres.

The project involved the renovation of 30 bedrooms, extension of the bar and conservatory and construction of 6 new Woodland Suites. Temporary Works challenges included forming new openings in load bearing, dry stone walls, which were relatively thick. The irregular sizing of the stones and the fact that there was no cementitious bond between them required Temporary Works that were sensitive to this type of construction.

Other Temporary Works items included the design of a haul road and bearing capacity checks for mobile cranes.
